Saturday 2/9 Run in Columbia

Following Monday's email, a few of you expressed interest in running the Club Challenge course prior to race day, so Carly and Melissa M invite you to join them in their workout. Here are the details:

Carly and Meg M will begin at 9:30am from the parking lot at Howard County Community College (Phys Ed building) and run for 30 minutes before swinging back to pick up Melissa.

From there they will head back out on the course and use the first 2 miles as warm-up, and then start a 4 x 2 mile tempo. Note: this is only a workout suggestion, and if you show up you are under no obligation to run it. A recommendation would be to regroup at the end of each 2 miles anyway.

The Club Challenge course can be confusing, even for old-timers, so it's best to familiarize yourself (perhaps even print) the map and turn-by-turn directions from the Striders' website.

The 4x2mi will take you back to the start, and those who need to add on from there can do so. If you wish to run more beforehand, you can also start earlier. Use the comments section below to announce if you'll be attending, and what your plan is.

I will plan on being there at 9:30 and will be doing 1h 50min of running. Depending on how I'm feeling I may or may not incorporate the tempo.

I will be there and will be putting in my long run (18 miles) w/ most of it at 7ish pace. Plan to do 2x2 miles (miles 4-6 & 6-8 on the course) in the late portion of my run.

As it seems like there are some who are starting runs at various times in the 9 o'clock hour to get in minutes before the 10am circle up, make sure you're on time so those folks don't have to wait to get started again. Tomorrow's weather does not look particularly hospitable with temps around 30 degrees and wind at 20mph.

Also, do not rely on the Phys Ed building being open for bathroom usage, so plan ahead.

And be sure to familiarize yourself with the course map. Very easy to get lost out there!
