New Haven Road Race

This past weekend was the USA 20km National Championships. For those not able to do the conversion, it works out to be about 12.4 miles. Why not just do a half marathon? Brian Godsey would argue that we should do everything in kilometers. Euro-sellout.

Anyway, James Carney was the overall winner and I had to share his quote from after the race:

"I want to run as hard as I can. If I blow up, I blow up, it's not that big a deal. At the end of the day it's just running."

Phenomenal, James, simply phenomenal. That's what I try to live by. And this guy's a pro, who is trying to make a living off of running.

Then, just for Travis, I pulled this quote from the 3rd place Female finisher, who is 19:

"To be honest with you, people can believe what they want, but it's the truth, God told me to go pro in running."

This is great. They are making a big deal out of her dropping out of school, but really, college is certainly not for everyone and there's no rule that says you have to go to college. You know who else doesn't have a business degree? Kobe Bryant, Lebron James and Tracy McGrady. I think they're doing pretty well.

This has nothing to do with the above post, but I think this event beats out HOF:

"'Not drinking is the S.S.W.C. version of doping ... a cowardly, unfair physical advantage,' one competitor said."

If you want to hear some more great quotes by Carny google the "chasing glory" series and watch 'the new boulder" episode.

He tries to bull shit his way through explaining the effects of altitude until the camera guy calls him out.
