Awards Night 2007

Wow, what can I say - it was really a great evening and my thanks to all of you who came out to make it an event that I look forward to making a tradition.

Some of you received great superlative awards, like Arjun's Billy Mills Spirit Award for Fastest Indian and Alex's Brian Higgins Memorial Award for Smelly Clothes, while others may have received Ginger of the Year (Penny) or Best Ass (Brita). Actually one of my favorites, and she wasn't there to receive it, was Dr. J's John Basedow Award for sickest abs. Have you seen hers?!

Then of course there were the more serious awards, such as Most Improved Male and Female (Kris Simms and cousin Emily) and the Male and Female Athletes of the Year (Kipchirchir and Chrissie). One of my favorite awards to give out is the Coach's Award, which went to Barf, and represents a general enthusiasm about the sport, and supporting others in their endeavors.

I wish there was a better award to give to Jim Adams, cause the guy is amazing and without him there would be no Team That's What She Said. I haven't been everywhere in the world, but I've certainly never met anyone like Jim, and I've never seen or been a part of a group like ours. I think it's all the guilt about missing workouts and not getting a nice little X next to your name on the attendance sheet.

So where do we go from here? Well, I can tell by some of the goals you all wrote down that 2008 is going to be an ambitious year, but let's use the momentum we've got right now to turn it into an awesome year. How can we help you accomplish your running goals over the next twelve months? For some of you, it's all about fast times and PRs. For others, it's just to enter and complete a marathon or Half Ironman. And for others its just about not getting slower, or doing a certain number of races. Regardless of what your personal goals are, you have an incredible support group around you that wants to see you succeed and feel good about yourselves, so don't forget it! Let's develop the plans you'll need to reach your goals and then, when you hit them, we'll celebrate. And then set new ones!

The awards night was sick! Sick, just like DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince!
