the significance of running shoes

a friend sent me an article recently suggesting that comfort should influence your selection in running shoes more than pronation control. from my time at falls road and playing with some of the neutral shoes, i was surprised to see how well i handled running in some shoes that i would've considered to lack the support i need. take a look, let me know what you think from experience/science/being smarter than everyone else.

I'd have to agree that comfort is king in my experience. I've never been "fitted" for a running shoe and have always gone with what felt good on the feet. Although, it does take a good bit of trial and error with shoes. What feels good in the store, doesn't always feel so great on the road. I currently run in a pair of trail shoes, Saucony Peregrines, for all my road training and races because they're the most comfortable shoe for me. Seems to be working. No serious injuries...yet.

Good article Cheese. For years I used Nike Pegasus, but continued to pop air pockets in the Nike Air's... never got more than 200 or 300 miles out of a pair. Spent some time in Adidas, Brooks, Asics, Saucony... Over the past year I've been in Newtons, and, for my foot strike and style of running, seems to be working.

I'd ditch shoes and run barefoot if there weren't so many broken 40's of Old English & Colt 45 strewn in with used heroine needles lurking on Bmore streets.
