Lightning Crashes

This is the race recap of the race that never was: the Rockville Twilight 8k.

We had an enormous group of people ready and rarin' to go, making the long trek down to the capital city of Montgomery County. Around 8:30, as final preparations were being made and strides completed, an intense lightning storm settled in just to our north. There was no rain, and there appeared to be no threat of the storm hitting us, but the race was postponed until 9:05. Then 9:15. Sometime around 9:30 the official call came: the race was canceled for the first time in its 28 year history.

Womp womp.

As mentioned in the email, there were a few other events going on but none of them were local!

Dave Ploskonka earned our Purple Drink Athlete of the Week honor for his terrific finish at Badwater. It was his 4th consecutive finish and this year was really tough with a high number of DNFs. Dave worked his way up from middle of the pack to ultimately finish 16th in 32 hours. Read his race report, too, because it sounds like he was ready to call it a day around 60 miles but hung in there. Like I touched on in the email, this exemplifies the concept of Bon Courage, a philosophy borne from our friends in France.

Ben Ingram, who interestingly won our TdF Fantasy League, finished 4th at the Omaha Triathlon. Awesome result, but he said he was more excited about the fantasy league win. In any event, it's great to see Ben and Kendra becoming so involved in the world of triathlon.

Jordan Orr made a triumphant return to racing, after what seems like an eternity he ran Emily's Run 5k in Portland Maine. It took him 19:53 and he finished 24th, but neither of those is very important. He got out there, that's what is. Bon Courage!

In other news, up in Lake Placid and it is quite chilly. I would not have imagined this complete reversal of summer. Shocked the system!
