Nick Symmonds and Paris Hilton?

News broke over the weekend that Nick Symmonds, 800 meter Olympic hopeful and poster-boy for athletes' rights, had asked permission from Paris Hilton's father to have the hotel heiress accompany him to the U.S. Olympic Trials later this month in Eugene.

Wait...what??

The socialite/actress, known for her roles in movies such as "House of Wax" and her reality show with Nicole Richie, has probably never heard of Symmonds, let alone ever seen a track in real life, so the move came somewhat of a surprise.

This is the type of news you would expect Perez Hilton to break, not Joe Battaglia of NBCOlympics.com, but alas, the story continues. Symmonds, an "old-fashioned guy," contacted Hilton's father's staff, asking permission to date his daughter. Did he expect to hear back from her? "Without great risk you're never going to get great reward."

BUT WAIT. The follow-up story reported that Paris actually emailed Symmonds, after her friends heard about the story.

Whoever Nick Symmonds wants to date doesn't affect us, just wait until AFTER the Olympics please. You are one of the favorites, but anything can happen. Let's worry about beating the likes of World Record holder, David Rudisha.

I agree - a little less hype and a little more focus on the job at hand! Plus, I work at the trials and have NO desire to put up with the chaos of having Paris Hilton about. The stars of the trials are the athletes who've worked their entire lives to get there. Anything that shifts the focus from them is NOT okay.

I guess Nick doesn't have the internets and doesn't look at PRON because he would probably realize that a night in Paris is not all that it is cracked up to be!
