Community Service Opportunity

All,

For those of you who don't know me, Ryan referenced me in a recent e-mail regarding Club Challenge as a "Founding Father". I am not sure if he was making fun of my age, the fact I am a father of 3, or the fact that I went to Mr. Jefferson's University. But I have enjoyed getting to know many of you over the past several years and truely believe that this group made me a much better runner before my injury. I am glad to see the recent community service push and would like to offer up another opportunity. I am on the board of a non-profit called Acts4Youth (http://acts4youth.org/), which ministers to at risk boys in Baltimore City through an after school program. As a fund raiser this year, we will be putting on a 5k Fun Run on Friday April 27th at 6:30 pm around Lake Montebello. Please note that the main goal of this will be to help raise money to finance the program and engage the boys in a heath conscious event. My ask to the group for help would be in sponsoring the water table. This would include getting all the necessary equipment for a water stop (table, cups, cooler/dispenser and shockingly water), handing it out during the race, and then clean up. I have spoken with RM and he has access to big jugs (I think he meant coolers). The run will be 2 loops around the lake, so a position near the finish line will allow for you to strategically administer the water twice. Lastly, while I will not stop anyone from signing up to enter the run, I want to remind everyone that this is not a traditional race. Instead maybe jogging around with the boys might be more meaningful for them and hopefully for you. However at $25 entry fee (remember this is a charity event) might be steep for a slow jog. Regardless thanks for the consideration and I hope to see you out there. Please e-mail me jgerbereux@gmail.com if you have interest.

For those of you who don't know Justin, he was the awesome dude yelling for our team on the last uphill at Club Challenge in the 10-th mile. Thanks for that Justin.

I don't know 100% if I can help, but it looks like I can - and I have a truck that can be used to help motivate materials around... TBD.
