Don't Stop Believin'

The prior post really says it all - Denise running the fastest marathon she's run since 2005, and one of her fastest ever, and Kelly running a 3 minute PR over the half distance.  It's times like these that we need to remember the eternal words of Journey, and never stop believing that our best races are yet to come.  Need more proof?  I saw Justin today, after 18 months of not running and just a few months following his back surgery, running 4 miles on the treadmill.  Sure, it didn't hurt that he can check out the chicas caliente at the Merritt while he's running, but he's on a mission now, and I know that his best races are just around the corner.

There were some other performances this weekend that were great first quasi-weekend of Spring results.  In Charlotte, Ryan Orner ran a 25:21 at the Shamrock 4 Miler, running with his brother.  We both agreed it's a great thing to be able to do to spend time with the people you care about, particularly family.  It also doesn't hurt when you finish 38th in a sizeable race!  Steve Wancowicz laid it on the line at HAT Run 50k, following my general life advice of go big or go home.  That advice saw him in the top 20 of the race for the first half!  Unfortunately, my advice sometimes comes at a price, and that price was walking about 6 miles to finish 148th in 6h8m, but it was still faster than he went last year!

Juhie Kumar ran a 1:21:54 at the Reston 10 Miler on Sunday, and Lauren Boof Dennisuk ran a 1:34:39 half marathon at the Rivers Half in Gross Ile, Michigan.  Great job ladies!  Sara Spears allegedly ran a 24:28 at the Scope it Out 5k, but since her name is not showing in the results I'll have to take her word for it.  Psyche, I'm sure she's telling the truth.

Like I said in the email, this week's Purple Drink Athlete of the Week was the Cinderella, the #11 Marquette defeating the #3 Syracuse - Kelly Meier!  It's March Madness baby, anything can happen!

This week's TNT workout is going to be Turbo 12s (copyright Ed Aramayo).  We will do 4x1200 as 1000 @ 5k pace and the final 200 will be @ Mile pace.  Quarter jog recovery in between intervals.  Warmup at 6:30pm, workout at 7pm.  Post-workout eating destination TBD.

I leave you with a quote from Kelly, following her PDAW win: "What an honor! Does this mean I have to drink grape juice"" to which I replied, no, you probably should drink prune juice.
