Indoor 12:53 5k by 17 year old

http://www.iaaf.org/news/kind=100/newsid=59287.html

Isaiah Koech (previously unknown 17 year old Kenyan) ran a 12:53(low) indoor 5k a few days ago. World Record is 12:49(high). Even on an outdoor -10% course, a 12:53 would be absolutely ridiculous for a 17 year old. Do any future American greats stand a chance against this guy? Even Lukas Verzbicas looks like a joke in comparison. No matter what, I'm looking forward to seeing what this kid can do in his 20s.

Oh, and apparently within the last few hours he also ran a 3000 meter (indoor) in 7:37.5 (4:04/mile pace). That's basically Lukas's mile pace for twice as long. Nuts.

Pretty insane - Collin I just saw this message to me as well and was going to post it up here!

I mean, the kid is allegedly 17, and has never run an indoor meet, and goes out and runs a 12:53?? 4 seconds away from Bekele's indoor record. Wipes the track with the blood of older, more proven competitors. Just one question: where on earth did he come from??

He doesn't look 17.

Hahaha. Yeah, he does look a little old. Even if he is older than 17 though, it barely changes what he's done in the past week. If he's already that close to the WR in both events in what is allegedly his first indoor meet, he's bound to get them both pretty soon.

that never holds up in court.
