They are doing more announcements on this at 11:30 am, but the prelim Boston 2012 qualifying standards are being released. Basically a rolling admission, then in 2013 it's rolling and the standards are 5 minutes faster overall. This actually makes sense. Doesn't make me ever want to run there again, but good job BAA.

The BAA server appears to be down, but here is the link:

Looks like if you qualified by 20 minutes or more, you get to register on the first day, by 10 minutes, two days latre, by 5 minutes, two days after that, etc.
I think it's pretty fair.
Perhaps the WTC should take lessons on how to impose qualifying standards that make people happy.
I think that's a fair accord, and one that you heard many people (including many of us) suggest.
I am okay with qualifying standards for any and all races - it's the race's right to determine how they want to let people in. But, in an effort to harness our own Darwinism, the best should be allowed first.
Seems very fair to me, although I think the 2012 version is better than the 2013 version. I'd imagine that with more and more people running marathons, at least as many people that ran 3:10 to qualify for 2011 will run 3:05 to qualify for 2013. I wish they'd just use the rolling entry every year, but at least they're doing something.
Actually, never mind, I misread the news story on boston.com. It looks like they are using the rolling entry every year and just upping everything by 5 minutes in 2013. That is actually awesome the way they're doing it.
F Boston. Go Orioles
But I like what they did
