Boston Marathon alternative

I've already ruled out a spring marathon, but thought this might be interesting to some of you who may have thought about Boston but missed out because registration closed a little earlier this year.

The inaugural Exeter Marathon (Exeter, Rhode Island) will be run April 17, 2010. They're billing it as "the only marathon in the USA, outside of the Olympic Marathon Trials, where qualification is the only means of entry." Which could also be translated as "The only marathon that hates charity," but the qualify-only entry might help keep the field small and legit. Qualifying standards are 5-minutes faster than Boston times, across the board. Entry is a steal, only $40.

I saw that a few weeks ago, but as of then, only 10 people or so were registered. That would be interesting if they got more people running.
