Cholesterol Calculation

Per our Chipotle conversation last night at Chipotle, I thought I would clarify how total cholesterol is calculated. I stated that it was 1/4 of triglycerides, but it is fact 1/5. So,
Total Cholesterol = LDL ("lousy cholesterol") + HDL ("good cholesterol") + (Triglycerides/5)

LDL should be less than 100, HDL at least over 40, preferably over 60, or if you want to break Ben's record, over 90. Triglycerides should be less than 150.

For more information on how to lower your specific cholesterol, please make an appt. with your neighborhood dietitian!
