Sunday afternoon race in HoCo

I just got off the phone with Tim, who expressed interest in running some low key 6 mile race in Howard County this Sunday. Race starts at 2pm, info can be found on www.striders.net

It's basically in Tom Stott's neighborhood, takes like 20ish minutes to get there, probably be a good little preview of some of the boring, hilly neighborhood running we'll see next month at CC.

In other news, Boston Marathon is closed (thanks to Jake Klim for the info). So if you didn't register and were planning on doing it - tough shit. There is definitely not waiting list.

Post in the comments if you are signed up please. Thanks, have a great weekend.

As you know, I am officially registered and planning to go. I would propose that 10 or 12 of us all get together, rent one of those big athletic vans and all go up together on Saturday, back on Monday after the race. We can then also all stay in the same hotel. I found a Days Inn with easy access to the turnpike for just $116 per night, which is really good for Boston, and would be especially good if we were splitting it 3 or 4 ways. If you are interested in these options, let me and/or Ryan know ASAP. If we don't do the van thing, or at least the "drive-up together" thing, I want to get my airline tickets. Hotel rooms and good airline fares are going to disappear fast for Boston that weekend.

Jeff - I was just about to email you back. It looks like the following people are on board for our little excursion:

Arjun
Melissa
Jen
Brennan
Ryan (me)
Jeff
Spence
Claire??
Zero??

I think Zero is going up solo, but potentially staying with us. I am not sure about Claire. The others are definites. If we don't do a van, we will most definitely just drive two cars up as I don't think there's a huge interest in flying. Although Jeff did say flying into Manchester, NH was about $180.

While the prospect of $116/night is quite nice, I don't think the close to $300 or whatever for the Hyatt Harborside is terrible, and especially if we can have non-driving access to get around town, I like the sound of that.

Let me see if I can reserve rooms at the Days Inn without having to pay upfront and maybe I'll just make a res.

I'm flying into Providence, prob Fri PM and back out of there Mon early AM. I'm planning on staying with you guys def Sun, likely Sat too- whatever is more convenient for the room splitting situation. I'm pro-Hyatt and close on that front.

The Boston Marathon is run on Monday, starting at 10:30 AM. So if you leave Monday early AM, you'll miss it.

By the way, I just looked at the website, and although I didn't actually register (because I already am registered), it seemed willing to let me register. So, there may still be hope for anyone out there who still needs/wants to register.

All right, Ryan, I am going consider my transportation and hotel arrangements to be complete and leave them in your capable hands. Obviously, if I can help with these arrangements in any way let me know.

Good luck to everyone running in Miami this weekend!

I registered (immediately) after I saw this blog post, and got in. As near as I can tell they've only filled just over 20000 of the 25000 spots, so you probably still can get in if you haven't yet, but you should hurry...

Hey, I'm in for the weekend too. I didn't go about getting anything arranged yet, but count me in.

Hotels near the finish area are the way to go. First, the buses pick you up in the AM near your hotel. More importantly, when you finish the race, the hotel is within walking distance. The T is a mess race day, so don't depend on the subway to get anywhere.

And Yes, Boston is still open. If consistent with the past two years, it fills up about 6 weeks prior to the race (Late Feb-Early March).

And now it's officially closed according to the website.

And of course Barf needs to go and screw things up by needing accommodations after I've been requesting that those planning on doing this let me know for the past few weeks and I went and reserved 2 rooms on the numbers I had.

So now I'll have to reserve an additional one because it looks like we're up to 10 people needing accommodations. We'll do 4/3/3 and that shouldn't be too much of a problem.
