so you didn't like my gwynn falls route? I can do patapsco at 9:30 on saturday. But, let's mix it up a little this winter. Maybe susquehana sometime in the next month? or something in DC area?
"mix it up this winter" - but Patapsco is awesome AND super close!
Not that I'm running long yet, but what sucks is having it take 4 hours to do a 2 hour run. Means you have to leave much earlier in the morning to not blow your whole day.
But, with that in mind, there are definitely places you can go if you are willing to drive.
Greenbelt Rock Creek Park Carderock/Great Falls (towpath) Patuxent Wildlife Refuge
And a weekend in January we can plan (for those racing) to go out to Derwood for a workout or run on the XC course.
There are also some super duper tricky trails out in Frederick, but they're really rocky and I wouldn't recommend it in the winter.
I will probably come Sat, but can't say for certain as my entire right leg has been acting screwy.
Also, Gunpowder Falls State Park (just east of Loch Raven) has some really nice trails -- not nearly as gnarly as Patapsco -- and is relatively nearby.
Yeah another problem in the winter is the condition of some of the trails - and we've all been in Patapsco when it's nearly unrunnable.
PB, where is this GFSP you mean, not the one with the entrance off of Route 1/Bel Air Rd, is it? I see that one when I ride; there is also an entrance off of Eastern Blvd basically but doesn't really have any trails.
And Kris - a tempo at Derwood would be in order. Get ready for 6 magical loops in February!
RM, that is the one I'm talking about, and it does have trails, not as many as Patapsco but you could definitely do a long run there. Granted most of it would be along the river, but the trails run on both sides of it for miles and miles in either direction (I'm pretty sure you can take the path east all the way to the bay).
It's very likely that it continues through to the section of GSFP that I am familiar with, as it would make sense.
In fact, Matt Stanford and I swim in the river there in the spring and summer and it's definitely a fun little place to hang out. Maybe we could figure out how to do an out and back and wind up at Hammerman and go for a swim after.
I might blow up, but if you don't take chances, why are you out there?~ Christo Landry
Falling apart in a marathon, you feel utterly defeated, knowing it got the best of you. You go home and ask your mom if she still loves you~ Jacob Frey

um, did you guys have a swim date?
was there a lot of splashing and giggling?
Anyone want to do long runs on Sunday mornings? That would definitely work better for me.
Jeff makes an entrance to the blog after a year and change!
Jeff, I normally prefer Sundays, so when I start doing long runs again I'll keep you in mind.
And to everyone else, remember - just because someone wants to go long doesn't mean you have to, but you can still meet up!
i'll be there sat @ 9:30

I'm gonna have to back out on the long run. I biked for a while today, and it hurt, so no way is it up for 14 or 15 miles tomorrow.
