12 Weeks

Holy shit, time is flying by. It is August and that means I have about five weeks of training left before my first tune up race.

Last week was strong. I logged 84 miles and had two solid hard efforts. Tuesday's tempo run was a little slower than last week, but I incorporated some more hills into the course and still managed a 29:45 and felt well within my MHR. Friday's 13 miler was also very quick.

Sunday's long run taught me a thing about how hard running fast on Marathon day might be. I cruised through my first 10 miles in 74:30, this section of the course is fairly hilly so I tried to stay relaxed, but I started to get impatient. I absolutely crushed miles 11-18, hitting 18 miles in 2:06:ish. I didn't feel like I was pushing to hard, but I was. My last two miles were over 16 minutes to finish in 2:23:34. Including my last two 8 minute miles, my second ten miles was a confidence boosting 69:04 but it would have been way cooler to finish strong.

On to next week, which contains, shit-the-bed, a VO2 max session. The mileage is starting to peak out too. I am getting close to the century mark.

Mon: Recovery, A.M. 6 mi. P.M. 4 mi.
Tues: 10 mi. W/ 8x800 @ 5k pace. Two minute jog rest.
Wed: Medium Long Run, 15 mi.
Th: Recovery, A.M. 6 mi. P.M. 4 mi.
Fri: Medium Long Run, 13 mi.
Sat: Recovery, 9 mi plus 10 strides
Sun: Long Run, 22 miles.

Total Miles: 93

A review of my schedule reveals an omission. There is to be a four mile recovery run in the AM on Friday before the afternoon session. Let it be written.

Geez Louise, that is some serious training. Kris, Zero and I were discussing your plan on Friday evening and it was determined that we are all extremely impressed and full of immense respect for you right now with keeping to this schedule. Great job buddy, keep it up!

Thanks, Ryan, that means a lot from a guy who goes out for a four hour competition. But the question is, when is TWSS going to attend "Witness the Fitness" at Jake's Green Mountain Death Camp? Complimentary Ben and Jerry's for all campers. I have room at my place for three people and could probably find lodging for more if necessary.

Other factoid. I ran over 330 miles in July, that is eleven miles a day average. Just about as much as I ever ran in a month. Ever.

Holy shit, 330 miles??? I'm psyched when I get to 160. You doubled that shit yo.

I'm really stressing these days about life in general. All things I'm mostly in control of, but I let too much shit bog me down. Because of work I can no longer take any days off in August, and September isn't going to work.

Mark my word, in 2009 I am only allowing myself to go to the one wedding I am already invited to and not racing anymore than 12 times. DO NOT let me do anymore than 12 races. Please, I beg you.
