$t. John's Run in the Valley 5k Saturday

For those who did this race last year (Eileen, Meg D, and Alyssa and Lillian as volunteers), you may remember the awful weather that was on...October 29th (just like this year's October 29th!). Snow blinded the 5k course up in rural Reisterstown, but 60 hearty souls braved the elements for the inaugural St. John's Run in the Valley 5k.

This year it's back, and fortunately a weekend later. Once again there will be prize money for the top 3 men and women across the line, and chances are strong to quite strong that if you showed up, you would be in the running for the dollars.

Here's a quick note from Race Director Kelly Ort about the event:

[Please consider running] a beautiful out and back 5K course on the newly paved Belmont Rd at 9am Saturday.  They will be welcomed with an indoor spread of Panera bagels, MOMs market organic bananas, homemade soup and baked goods and unlimited amounts of Goetz caramel creams!  Cash award for the top three men and women plus great awards for top age group finishers.  All this and a good cause helping send Pauls Place city kids to a week-long summer camp in the country. Register for the Run In Valley 5K and Walk online at runningmaryland.com or 7 to 9am race morning at St Johns Church 3738 Butler Rd. Glyndon.  Should be a beautful morning to run!   Oh and the premium is a pint glass with the race logo.

So there it is. There are a few other events this weekend, such as the Downs Park 5 Miler in Annapolis on Saturday, and the Run Through the Grapevine 8k (xc - hardest xc race I've ever done) in Mt. Airy on Sunday. But this is put on by our friend Kelly Ort, so give it a thought!

Oh, and it's official - the ING New York City Marathon WILL GO ON on Sunday, despite the devastating damage caused by Frankenstorm.
