Olympic Trials: Women's 1500m

Morgan Uceny, Shannon Rowbury, Jenny Simpson Head to London

Well, that wound up being somewhat uneventful. Brenda Martinez sat on the front for 2 laps, clearly in an attempt to keep the pace high in the event she could finish top 3 (she lacked the A standard) but with a lap to go it was Uceny and Simpson pushing the pace, with Rowbury sitting right behind. And then they just blew the rest of the field away.

Gabriele Anderson, the Team USA Minnesota runner who had been disqualified following the semi-final and later reinstated, finished a respectable 4th, just ahead of Anna Pierce. Maybe she should go back to steeplechase. Alice Schmidt, who was allowed into the final after the initial disqualification of Anderson, and who is already on the team in the 800m, finished in the middle of the pack.
