New Jersey International Track Meet

26th New Jersey International Track Meet Schedule of Events

Women's 1500m

It was a stacked field and conditions were perfect for a fast race. Villanova's Sheila Reid, Stony Brook's Lucy van Dalen (2012 NCAA Indoor Champion at the distance), former Villanova runners/Olympians Marina Muncan and Carmen Hassar, and a host of others made up this competitive race. We were reminded that Olympic A standard is < 4:06.0, although most were probably just gunning for their respective national qualifiers.

It was a tight race from the gun, the field passed the 800m mark in 2:14ish, and only in the final straightaway did Sheila Reid separate herself to get the win in 4:07.88. Lucy van Dalen was 2nd in 4:08.10, and Marina Muncan was 3rd in 4:08.33. Maggie Infeld of NYAC was 4th in 4:09.57. Ed's friend, Cat Beck, who runs for Central Park Track Club, ran 4:21.13 in what has to be her 8th 1500m race of the season.

For being a random meet in New Jersey, it's pretty competitive. Obviously it falls at a time when people are desperate to hit certain times, but it's a very unassuming event. There were some decent performances in the men's 400m, women's 800m, and a Villanova kid did win the 1500m in 3:41, which is pretty cool.
