My First Boston

I remember my first Boston - the 100th in 1996.

I was 40 years old, and had qualified with a 3:17 PR at NCR Trail the previous November.

I felt so good at Boston, I was pumped and the course was really easy. I went through the half in 1:26, on my way to a 25 minute PR. Hit the 20 mile in 2:24, still cruising.

Except something happened to me on top of Heartbreak Hill, and I couldn't run the downhills anymore. And I just barely broke 3:27.

I've run better Bostons, and I've run worse Bostons. But I have never felt as bad as I did at my first Boston!

PS - Thanks to RM for not looking far enough down to find my results, or if you did, for not posting the lousy time.
