At some point in the next few days I'm going to do a hill workout at Patterson Park if anyone wants to do hills.
What I'm thinking is:
8x 600m with 600m recovery + 2 min rest.
The route would be uphill (hard and fast) on Baltimore St. from Kenwood to Patt Park Dr. (almost exactly 600m corner to corner) and then easy (like marathon pace) back down. Rest at the bottom.
Quick math says the total would be 9.6k.

And instantly thought Hills meant "The Hills" the MTV show.
Sounds challenging, I'm up for it. As for the easy, marathon pace recovery, sub-7s, while easier going downhill, may still be too fast. Any thoughts? Thursdays are good for me.

Marathon pace or slower will be good for the downhill. I threw that out there as a limit, not a goal.
I'm thinking ahead to Boston where holding back the first 5-6mi is imperative and want to simulate that with tired-ish legs.
1) I mirror Jen's sentiment exactly; definitely thought it was Alyssa writing about The Hills.
2) I actually tivo'd the new season premiere of the Real World.
3) I wouldn't qualify some people's (Ben) marathon pace as "slow"!
for what it's worth, i think mp downhill will do you nothing but good, esp if you are running boston. also, i'd drop the rest to 1 min, you just rested coming down the hill.
I think you should drop the rest altogether.
Me and Andy G trained on Gunn Road a few times at the motivation of Godsey's trek there.
Thursday's at 6:00 meeting at UMBC track is great (or in the parking lot on the loop). Run about 10min to the hill, then all the fun you want. It is probably the best road hill that is not travelled that is mildly convenient
and as far as the first 5-6miles of boston - you want to be very comfortable during that - try to go to fast and get caught up weaving around many hundreds of runners for several miles. The race doesn't thin out until the end of those hills anyway. Then it is very flat for 10miles until the bitch of 17-21. That stretch is all guts. Then the last 5 miles is what you have left.
I tried out the Patt Park hill yesterday (sat) and that thing is a bitch. My goal was go sub-6 pace (2:15, maybe 2:10) up it and ~6:40 down (2:30) with ~1 min between. I made it up that fast all of one time. Averaged 2:20 up for the other 7 and came back down in a consistent 2:30. Def would a good workout to have others around to push each other up. I like this thursday talk, either at PP or UMBC.
