Holler for a Dollar

So Kip and I are in the mood for a change of pace this weekend for a long run and we are contemplating Susquehanna State Park as the venue. It's only 35 miles away, but apparently mapquest thinks its about an hour drive. I say we go because it's the last weekend of the Tour de France, and the park is in Havre de Grace, MD....which sounds French?

I have only run there once for the HAT run this year, so I am by no means an expert on the routes and will most definitely get lost. But, the race website does have up some pictures of the course, and some pretty good maps that we can bring along. Kip and I are open to going either Saturday or Sunday, although I would prefer earlier on Saturday because if it was Sunday I wouldn't be able to leave until 11ish. And even though Kip loves the heat I will melt into a puddle. I'd like to spend 2.5 - 3.5 hours out there, so I can always drive separate if people want to go shorter.

Moral of the story: I run about one quarter of the speed Kip does on long runs, so more people should come out. If you want to run with me, be prepared for conversational pace and bring snacks. Let us know if you're interested - we'll decide in the next few days if people are up for going out there.

Havre de Grace is pretty far, actually. It's at least 35 miles from my house on 95. Exit 89 or somewhere around there. I am at 57. It would take you longer than 35 minutes, less than an hour, so probably 45-50. Eric Benjamin is from up that way. I like how you brought it all together in the last paragraph, just letting people know that you and Kip would be starting simultaneously but not running together.

I'm interested if it's early Saturday morning. I'm planning on running 2 1/2 hours starting around 8 min pace and dropping to 6:30ish, so probably not a pace either of you is running.

You guys are gay, wait for the weekend I'm away racing (wait, isn't that every weekend) to take a road trip. Nobody ever wants to go on any of MY road trips...

Oh and for Chrissie, if you're trying to do a specific pace workout, it may be tougher in there if the trails aren't marked for miles.

Dear Travis,
No, unfortunatly the HAT course isn't still marked. And I really won't be much help. I get lost going from my house to the 7-11 and it's right across the street. But I think the maps on the website are dece to dece-plus.
xo,
Alyssa

Dear everyone else,
How early is too early? In the car and driving by 7 I would love. 8 I can do. 9-10 we are pushing it.
xo,
Alyssa

WOW. Awesome use of abbrev, Alex would be proud.

8:00 is good. Thanks Ryan. I'll just plan on progressing to half marathon "effort" rather than specific mile splits.

8 works for me (i think). where should we meet?

Since you're headed north, I would suggest meeting north. Possible meeting locations could include the little park on Boston Street, what is like Vietnam or Veterans Memorial Park? You could meet in Canton Square. You could meet at the Dunkin Donuts on Boston Street. All of these would allow you to hop on 95N very easily.

I love how ryan is so sad to be missing this he is still helping with logistics. But yeah the dunkin donuts sounds perfect bc I want a donut with chocolate icing and rainbow sprinkles after the run. Unless anyone else has a strong opinion otherwise we'll say there at 8.

I have a strong opinion that we meet there at 7:15, so that we are running by 8.
